Buckfast Abbey

Buckfast Abbey was founded nearly a thousand years ago and stood for five hundred years before it was closed by Henry VIII. The present community of monks returned in 1882 and rebuilt the present Abbey on its medieval foundations, finishing the church in 1938. Hartland Abbey

Hartland Abbey was founded in 1157 in a narrow wandering valley running inland from the wild and precipitous Atlantic coast. It was dissolved in 1539 having survived longer than any monastery in the country.
